Organizations Join AOA You Can! Program On September 1, the Administration on Aging began partner enrollment for the You Can! Steps to Healthier Aging campaign. Enrolled organizations are divided into one of three sections: community partners at the local level; champion partners at the state and national level, and federal agencies. To enroll in the campaign.

CDC Database of Qualitative Research The Inventory of Qualitative Research website provides information about qualitative studies conducted in the nutrition and physical activity areas. The search information can help organizations contact others who are conducting similar studies, exchange ideas about research findings and potential intervention strategies, and share research instruments and tools.

ACSM: “Talk Test” is Effective Intensity Measure
New research published in the September issue of Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise shows that the “talk test” is a consistent and reliable measure of exercise intensity.

Active Aging Toolkit Featured in Article Advance Online Editions for Physical Therapists published an article about the Active Aging Toolkit, produced by Thera-Band and many other Blueprint partners. The article, entitled, “Knowing that Older Adults Can Benefit from an Active Lifestyle, Some Experts Set Out to Get Them Moving,” is in Vol. 15, Issue 20, Page 39.

CDC Links to Special Physical Activity Recommendations for Persons with Disabilities or Illness

Research Update from the Arthritis Foundation: How Active Are Adults with Arthritis?
In telephone interviews with community-dwelling adults, data showed that 23 percent reported having doctor-diagnosed arthritis. Among these participants, more than 60 percent did not meet the recommended frequency or duration of physical activity. Nearly 24 percent were not physically active at all.
